Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust (UK) Treasurer, Wilma Mutemasango-Sweeney, has been nominated for the Community Champion Award in the Zimbabwe International Women Awards’ 2016 edition. Wilma’s nomination is in recognition of her construction and resourcing a library at Chikowore Primary School in her home area of Mhondoro in Zimbabwe.

The Gogo Grace Mutemasango Memorial Library, built in honour of Wilma’s late mother who was a champion in promoting early childhood education, with special emphasis on the girl child, was officially opened by Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Paul Mavima in April this year. It will cater to the information needs of both the in-school and out-of-school community in the village.

The categories for which nominations have been made are Actress of the Year, Artist of the Year, Author of the Year, Blogger of the Year, Businesswoman of the Year, Community Champion Award; Entrepreneur of the Year, Fashion Blogger of the Year, Fashion Designer of the Year, Humanitarian Award, Inspirational Woman of the Year, Media Professional of the Year, Motivational Speaker of the Year, Musician of the Year, Panel Choice Award, People’s Choice Award, Professional Woman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Women’s Collective and the Young Achiever of the Year.

Voting closed on 30 September, and winners in the various categories will be announced at a glamorous Awards ceremony at the prestigious Athena in Leicester, United Kingdom.
