Zanaka African Attire has donated 400 raffle tickets to the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust New Zealand (ZRSLT NZ) to raise NZ$2,000.00 to enable ZRSLT NZ to ship a container of books to Zimbabwe. This will be the third container ZRSLT will send to Zimbabwe since its inception.
The Director for Zanaka African Attire Tendekai Rodney Mugadza said the sponsorship was in line with the company’s philosophy of giving back to deserving communities. “Access to reading material is a basic human right and a major requirement for the teaching and learning process, hence our decision to support ZRSLT NZ’s fundraising initiative”, explained Mugadza. Zanaka African Attire is a retail shop based in New Zealand selling trendy African-themed clothing and accessories.
ZRSLT New Zealand Fundraising Coordinator Prisca Gonzo has encouraged New Zealanders to purchase raffle tickets or to generously donate to ensure some rural school children in Zimbabwe can access valuable reading material. Gonzo has witnessed the impact books sent in previous containers have had and wants more schools to benefit “the primary school I went to has benefited from the trust and I vividly remember the joy I saw on the kids and teachers when I visited them the last time I went home. There are so many schools that have not yet benefited and ZRSLT NZ is tirelessly trying to fundraise so that another book container is sent to Zimbabwe this year. I am really inspired by the joy among the students and teachers at Gavaza Primary School in Mhondoro, and I wish other schools to have the same. Every ticket purchased brings smiles to several information-starved rural school children of Zimbabwe.
Raffle tickets are selling NZ$5. The prize to be won is NZ$60 worthy of clothing from Zanaka African Attire. The winner will select items valued at NZ$60 from Zanaka, donated by the Tuwe Family. The draw is expected to be conducted around the end of March 2022, and an announcement will be made once all the logistics are in place.
Registered as Charity Registration Number CC48937, ZRSLT New Zealand is a legally registered entity and has been granted overseas donee status. aS A a result of its donee status, persons donating to the Trust can get back one-third of money donated to ZRSLT New Zealand after claiming from the Inland Revenue Authority.
